The civil maritime program, which the Russian authorities actively promoted in 2023, has undergone a significant reduction — more than 40% of the planned volume.

This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation (CDC).

The project called for the construction of 260 vessels — merchant, fishing and cruise — over five years. However, these plans were in danger of being disrupted due to a lack of funding.

According to the CPD, the main reason for the reduction was the redirection of resources to the war against Ukraine and the growing costs of maintaining the army. As a result, the state is forced to abandon major infrastructure initiatives in the civilian sector.

The situation in the aviation industry is also deteriorating. Due to sanctions, a lack of components, and technical degradation, the number of accidents is increasing. One recent incident was the crash of an An-24 aircraft in the Amur region, which killed all 49 people on board.

The decline is also observed in the Russian naval sector. The crisis was symbolized by the announced dismantling of the only aircraft carrier of the Russian Federation, the Admiral Kuznetsov. In addition, this year, for the first time, the main naval parade in St. Petersburg, which had previously been actively used for propaganda purposes, was canceled without explanation.

The CPD emphasizes: despite the Kremlin’s attempts to demonstrate power and stability, reality indicates a gradual curtailment of ambitious projects and systemic degradation in key areas of the economy.

It should be noted that Russia’s only aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov, is under threat of being decommissioned. In the face of technical decline and the lack of modern carrier-based aircraft, Russia may find its modernization impractical.

As you know, in the fourth year , due to the threat of military attacks, the Russians canceled the military parade in St. Petersburg.

As a reminder, another year of “belt tightening” awaits the Russians. Russia predicts a drop in oil prices to $55 by 2025-2026.
