Negotiations between the US and Russia have broken down: Washington sees no point in the meeting
Рубіо та Лавров
Expected talks between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, which were scheduled to take place this week, have been postponed indefinitely.
This was reported by CNN, citing sources in the White House.
According to journalists, Washington concluded that after the last conversation between Rubio and Lavrov, the Kremlin’s position on the war against Ukraine has practically not changed.
That is why, according to sources, Rubio will not advise US President Donald Trump to hold a meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Budapest scheduled for next week.
The talks were reportedly part of the White House’s diplomatic efforts to prepare for a possible meeting between the leaders of the United States and Russia. However, due to the lack of progress in Moscow’s position, this process has effectively been suspended.
Recall that some time ago, US President Donald Trump had a telephone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. During the talks, the presidents agreed to organize a summit in Budapest . However, the groundwork for this meeting was to be provided by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov .
It was also previously reported that consideration of the bill, which is supposed to introduce new large-scale sanctions against Russia and its trade allies, was temporarily suspended so as not to harm the upcoming meeting between Putin and Trump.
