New payments and clear terms of service are being prepared for the military: what Zelensky said

Ukraine is preparing major changes for its military. The government plans to increase pay, introduce new contracts for infantrymen, simplify transfers between units, and expand opportunities for foreign volunteers to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy after meetings with the leadership of the government, the Ministry of Defense, the General Staff, and the financial block.
According to the head of state, one of the key decisions will be to review the system of financial support for the military. In particular, the minimum payments for servicemen in the rear should be 30 thousand hryvnias. For those performing combat missions on the front line, payments will be significantly higher.
“There is a resource to increase payments in the army. A minimum of 30 thousand hryvnias in the rear. The more combat missions, the higher the level of payments. There will be new, significantly stronger contracts for infantrymen. 300 thousand hryvnias on average on the front line,” Zelenskyy said.
It is also planned to introduce new contracts with clearly defined terms of service – for 10, 14 or 24 months. The President emphasized that the military should have clear terms of service and guaranteed deferments after its completion.
Separately, the government plans to increase payments to combat commanders in order to retain experienced personnel in the army and increase motivation for service.
Another direction of the reform will be to attract more foreigners to the Ukrainian army. To this end, new recruiting mechanisms and simplification of entry into service procedures are being prepared.
In addition, the military is promised to simplify transfers between units and create more opportunities for career growth in the army.
According to Zelensky, the details of the new decisions will be presented by the Ministry of Defense in the near future, and the Cabinet of Ministers should launch the first changes regarding additional payments to the military in June.
