Ukraine hopes to finalize an agreement with Poland on a €125 million loan to purchase Polish weapons by the end of 2026. Kyiv is also ready to conclude a Drone Deal with Warsaw on cooperation in the field of drones and develop joint weapons production.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga said this in an interview with Ukrinform.

According to the Foreign Minister, Poland has already agreed to provide a loan of 125 million euros for the purchase of weapons from its manufacturers. The relevant decision was also reported by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radosław Sikorski. The issue was also discussed by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and the Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk.

Currently, the Ministries of Finance and Defense of both countries are coordinating the terms of the agreement, in particular, determining the list of weapons that Ukraine will receive. Among the possible purchases are the Piorun portable anti-aircraft missile systems, in which the Ukrainian side is interested.

“We are now discussing how to finalize this agreement. I hope that this will happen in the near future – by the end of the year, because there is political will for this, and funds are provided in the Polish budget,” Szybiga noted.

He stressed that defense cooperation will be beneficial for both states. Polish manufacturers will receive funding, and the Ukrainian military will be able to test the purchased weapons in combat conditions. Ukraine’s practical experience, according to the minister, will help improve weapons and open new markets for them.

Ukraine is ready to conclude a Drone Deal with Poland

Kyiv is also interested in deepening cooperation with Warsaw in the field of unmanned systems. Ukraine is ready to sign the Drone Deal, but first the parties must agree on its terms.

“The key here is the content, not the timeframe, but we are ready,” said Sibiga.

In addition, Ukraine plans to develop joint weapons production with Poland within the framework of the European SAFE program, which provides for financing defense projects.

Szybiga announced the normalization of relations with Poland

During his visit to Warsaw, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister discussed bilateral relations with Radoslav Sikorski, including cooperation in the defense sector.

According to Sybiga, Ukraine and Poland managed to normalize relations after previous difficulties.

“This is how it should be between strategic partners, because we must be able to share the joy of joint achievements, but also jointly overcome the difficulties that arise,” the minister concluded.

It was previously reported that Poland will not transfer funds it will receive from the European Peace Fund (EPF) to Ukraine. Warsaw plans to spend them on modernizing its own army.
