Poland has updated the rules of the 800+ social assistance program, which is used by millions of families, including Ukrainian refugees. New conditions have been introduced for Ukrainian citizens with UKR status, without which payments will not be accrued.
This is reported by pulsHR .
The 800+ program remains one of the main forms of family support in Poland. The payments help parents and guardians cover the costs of food, education, clothing and development of children. In February 2026, applications for the new payment period began, which will last from June 1, 2026 to May 31, 2027.
At the same time, the Polish Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy plans to introduce a mechanism for automatic extension of the right to 800+ benefits. If the data of recipients in the system remains up-to-date, parents will no longer have to submit new applications every year, and payments will continue automatically based on ZUS information.
If circumstances change, beneficiaries will have to update their data. Proposals for new rules have already been included in the government’s list of legislative initiatives, and the Polish Council of Ministers is due to consider them in the second quarter of 2026.
Certain changes have already come into force for citizens of Ukraine with UKR status. From now on, one of the mandatory conditions for receiving payments is the professional activity of one of the parents or guardians.
In addition, the child must attend a Polish school, complete compulsory pre-school education or fulfil the educational obligation. This requirement does not apply to children under 6 years of age.
Also, both the applicant and the child must be permanently resident in Poland. For other foreigners who are not citizens of the European Union and EFTA countries, similar rules will come into effect from June 1.
