Russia is preparing to increase electricity tariffs for the population in order to reduce state subsidies and redirect funds to military needs.
This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.
According to the new plans, state benefits for electricity for citizens will be reduced: preferential coefficients are canceled, social consumption norms are limited, and the number of categories of the population entitled to a discount is reduced. Currently, the state compensates for low tariffs at the expense of industry, small businesses, and budget institutions.
The changes are estimated to save about 160 billion rubles (approximately $2 billion). At the same time, the savings will fall on the shoulders of the most vulnerable segments of the population – pensioners, low-income families, and rural residents.
Experts note that such steps could lead to increased social tension in the Russian Federation, as a sharp increase in tariffs will affect those who are already experiencing financial difficulties.
As reported, targeted drone strikes by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Russian oil industry facilities are already having serious consequences for the economy of the aggressor country. Due to significant damage to the oil refining infrastructure, Russia has faced a fuel shortage and was forced to temporarily limit its exports. According to experts, the restoration of refining volumes may take at least until mid-2026.
In addition, the crisis in the freight transportation industry in Russia is deepening – companies are facing rising costs, falling demand, and leasing problems . According to analysts, up to 15% of carriers may leave the market by the end of 2025.
