Russian forces have used a Shahed drone equipped with a man-portable anti-aircraft missile system (MANPADS) for the first time. This poses a new threat to Ukrainian aviation and requires increased caution during flights.

This was reported by military specialist Serhiy Flesh.

According to him, on January 4, a Shahed drone with MANPADS on board was first recorded.

“The enemy continues to look for ways to destroy our aircraft. Today, for the first time, we encountered a Shahed, which has a MANPADS installed on board. The Shahed is equipped with a camera and a radio modem. The missile is launched by a drone pilot who controls it from the territory of the Russian Federation,” said Sergey Flesh.

The drone is equipped with a surveillance camera and a radio modem for remote control. The missile is launched by an operator directly from Russian territory.

The specialist called on Ukrainian army aviation pilots to take into account the emergence of a new type of threat.

“We should avoid approaching Shahed on an oncoming course and be more careful with those drones that are in standby mode on the circle,” he emphasized.

“Flash” also released a video showing a Shahed drone with a MANPADS on board.

It was previously reported that the Russian occupiers began equipping Shahed kamikaze drones with infrared searchlights to complicate the work of Ukrainian air defense at night.

The day before, an R-60 air-to-air missile was found on a strike drone used by the Russians to attack Ukraine. In this way, the enemy is trying to counteract Ukrainian aviation. In particular, the corresponding combination is intended to destroy helicopters and planes that neutralize Russian “shaheeds.”

Recall that Russia is modernizing its strike drones and switching to jet versions of the Shahed, which is a direct challenge to air defense.
