Night attack on western Ukraine: energy sector, enterprise and “Epicenter” under attack

On the night of October 20, Russian forces attacked western regions of Ukraine with drones. In Lviv region, two drones hit a critical energy infrastructure facility, a fire broke out in Kovel on the territory of the Epicenter construction hypermarket, and an enterprise was hit in Khmelnytskyi region.

This was reported by the heads of regional military administrations, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and correspondents of “Suspilny”.

In Lviv region, Russian drones attacked the same energy facility twice. The head of the Lviv OVA, Maksym Kozytsky, initially reported a hit, and about 40 minutes later, a second strike. Rescuers arrived at the scene.

Several explosions were heard in Lviv during the night. The Air Force warned of the movement of jet drones towards the city. The air alert in the region was declared repeatedly, in particular after midnight and around 3 am.

In Volyn, Kovel was under attack. As a result of the attack, the territory of the Epicenter construction hypermarket caught fire. Local residents informed Suspilny correspondents about the fire. Explosions were also heard in Lutsk in the evening, where air defenses were operating.

Russian drones also attacked the Khmelnytskyi region. According to the head of the OVA, Sergei Tyurin, one of the region’s enterprises was hit. Emergency services were working on the scene, and no injuries were reported. In addition, a church was damaged in the Shepetivskyi district.

The Air Force also warned about the movement of jet drones in the direction of the Rivne region. In particular, one of the drones was heading towards Rivne from the north. There was no information about new hits in the Rivne region that night at the time of preparation of the material.

As of this morning, information about the consequences of the strikes and possible casualties was being clarified. At the same time, energy experts warned of restrictions on electricity consumption on October 20 due to the consequences of Russian attacks on energy infrastructure. There was no direct confirmation that these restrictions were related to the night strikes.
