Night shelling of Kyiv damaged the zoo: what is known about the consequences
The Kyiv Zoo was damaged during the nighttime Russian attack on Kyiv on July 2. Glass and structural debris injured several animals, and the complex’s buildings were also damaged.
This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration with reference to the Kyiv Zoo.
The zoo said that broken glass and parts of window frames fell into the enclosures where the turtles and crocodiles were kept. The zoo’s 24-hour staff immediately provided the animals with the necessary assistance.
KyivZoo noted that no animals died. All zoo residents are currently safe.
The attack also damaged the buildings of the primate and bird departments, the winter garden dome, the aquaterrarium, the hayloft, and the northern entrance group. In addition, the exotic vegetation of the winter garden was damaged.
Workers are currently eliminating the effects of the shelling. The North Entrance and parking lot are temporarily closed. Visitors are admitted through the Central Entrance, and other zoo facilities are operating as normal.
It was previously reported that on the night of Thursday, July 2, Russia launched a massive strike on Kyiv . The attack killed 10 people and injured 56 others. Two children were among the injured.
It was also reported that in Kyiv, due to a massive attack on the night of July 2, public transport traffic was temporarily disrupted . The reason was damage to the contact network, lack of power supply, and emergency repair work.
