Nine cases of carbon monoxide poisoning occurred in Ukraine in two days: four people died, 25 more were injured

A series of carbon monoxide poisoning cases were recorded in Ukraine on February 7-8 in various regions of the country. The incidents resulted in the deaths of 4 people and the injury of 25 others, including 15 children.

This was reported by the press service of the State Emergency Service.

According to rescuers, in just under 2 days, carbon monoxide has caused 9 emergencies in Ukraine. Entire families, including families with young children, have been affected.

In particular, in the village of Zhukivtsi, Kyiv region, 4 people were injured due to violations of the rules for using a generator. Among them were children born in 2024 and 2025.

Also, due to malfunctioning stove and gas heating in Ternopil region and Vinnytsia, 4 people died – 2 in each region. According to rescuers, most of the cases occurred in rural areas and covered 8 regions.

The State Emergency Service noted that the main causes of poisoning were the improper use of alternative energy sources and heating equipment.

In particular, 5 cases of poisoning were recorded due to the use of generators that were placed too close to windows or indoors. Another 2 cases were related to malfunctioning stove heating due to cracks in the stoves and premature closing of dampers. Also 2 cases occurred due to malfunctioning gas equipment.

By the way, in the village of Sopachiv, Varasky district, Rivne region , a domestic gas cylinder exploded in a private residential building . As a result of the incident, two people were injured and hospitalized.

We will remind you thatin the Lviv region, three young children died as a result of a fire in their own house . Police detained their mother, who, according to the investigation, left the children unattended for the whole day and went to work.
