No business calls after work: the new Civil Code offers “information peace”

The new draft of the Civil Code of Ukraine proposes to enshrine the right of employees to “informational peace.” It will provide for the possibility of not answering work calls and messages on weekends, as well as after the end of the working day.
This was stated by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk.
According to him, it is about protecting an employee’s personal time from work issues when a person is no longer performing their professional duties.
“This is a very important thing that distinguishes civilized legal systems from others,” Stefanchuk noted.
The draft code also proposes, for the first time, to provide for the right to be forgotten. It would apply, in particular, to cases where a non-public person made a mistake in childhood, and information about it later continues to influence their life.
Stefanchuk explained that such circumstances should not haunt a person throughout his life.
