Ihor Smilyansky, the General Director of Ukrposhta, announced that he has filed a lawsuit against the National Bank of Ukraine. He is demanding that the regulator cancel the decision by which he was recognized as not meeting the requirements for professional suitability as the head of a financial payment services provider.

Smilyansky reported this on Telegram.

According to him, the lawsuit was filed this week with the Kyiv District Administrative Court. Smilyansky said that he considers the National Bank’s decision illegal and biased.

“I am confident in my position and am ready to prove it in court. I consider the decision against me illegal and biased,” he wrote.

Separately, the head of Ukrposhta accused the NBU leadership of personal bias against him.

“No business, just personal revenge on me from the NBU leadership,” said Smilyansky.

In his opinion, the conflict is connected, in particular, with attempts to create “Ukrposhta Bank”. Smilyansky claims that the new bank could become a competitor to other market players. This is the position of the head of “Ukrposhta” himself.

He also noted that he filed the lawsuit personally and is paying for the lawyers’ work on his own. According to him, Ukrposhta does not spend money on the lawsuit.

Smilyansky stated that if he wins, he will also demand compensation for his legal costs.

As a reminder, the National Bank previously recognized Igor Smilyansky as not meeting the requirements for professional suitability as the head of a financial payment services provider. The NBU obliged Ukrposhta to remove him from management and appoint a new head.

After that, Smilyanskyy stated that he would appeal the National Bank’s decision , calling it a “settling of scores.”

Subsequently, Ukrposhta reported that Smilyansky continues to perform the duties of CEO despite the regulator’s request.
