No Coalition: Poroshenko Claims Constitutional Violation During Appointment of Prime Minister

During the discussion of the candidacy of the Prime Minister in the Verkhovna Rada, Petro Poroshenko stated that the actual absence of the “Servant of the People” coalition makes this vote unconstitutional.

“Today we are discussing not just the candidacy of the Prime Minister, we must stop the violation of the Constitution. Because several times in the history of Ukraine there was a violation, including by Yanukovych, when he tried to return to the 1996 Constitution, appropriating dictatorial powers,” Poroshenko said.

“Currently, 231 deputies of the mono-majority coalition are a fake. Some of them are hiding from corruption agencies abroad, some of them definitely do not support the candidacy of the Prime Minister and are not members of the coalition,” Poroshenko stated.

He also recalled that in 2019, in the very first week of Zelensky’s presidential term, at the request of Portnov, the State Bureau of Investigation opened a criminal case due to the alleged lack of a coalition when appointing the Head of Government in 2016.

“For many years this case was considered by the current composition of the State Bureau of Investigation,” the fifth President noted.

“I am sure that we should not violate the Constitution,” Poroshenko said. “And the wishes of Mrs. Yulia. The Druzhba oil pipeline, lifting the travel ban, appointing and announcing a competition for the DBR, for the BEB. Positions on the ban on Telegram, positions on the development of fortifications. Positions on fundamental things, on transferring the economy to a war footing.”

During the vote for the candidacy of Yulia Svyrydenko for the post of Prime Minister of Ukraine, the mono-majority faction “Servant of the People” gave 201 votes “for” out of the 226 required.

Let us recall that on July 17 , the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved the appointment of Yulia Svyrydenko as Prime Minister of Ukraine .
