On Wednesday, July 23, in many cities of Ukraine, including Kyiv, Ukrainians took to the streets to protest against the draft law No. 12414 on NABU and SAPO.
In Kyiv, the protest began at 8:00 p.m. However, protesters began arriving earlier. By now, hundreds of people have gathered near the Franko Theater, carrying placards with slogans and national flags.
For the second day in a row, mass demonstrations continue in Lviv. Over 500 people have already gathered in the city center, chanting slogans such as “My relatives are not fighting for this!” and “Usurpers – Rostov.”
Also for the second time, people are protesting in Dnipro. More than 100 people have already gathered. The participants called their action “Requiem for Freedom” and say that they are saying goodbye to anti-corruption agencies and justice.
As a reminder, on July 22, the Verkhovna Rada voted for a bill that significantly limits the powers of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) , effectively subordinating their activities to the Prosecutor General.
It should be noted that Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a resonant law that significantly changes the powers of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP), strengthening control by the Prosecutor General.
By the way, the Verkhovna Rada plans to prepare a submission to the Constitutional Court of Ukraine to repeal Law No. 12414, which limits the independence of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP).
