The pro-government coalition lacks the votes to advance the necessary decisions, as evidenced by the recent meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the Servant of the People faction. Moreover, the people’s deputies fear criminal prosecution and are sabotaging plenary sessions of the Verkhovna Rada.

This opinion was expressed on the air of “Pryamoy” by political scientist Volodymyr Tsybulko.

“This is a crisis of the “Servant of the People”, not a parliamentary one… We can say about the “Servant of the People” faction roughly the same as about Russia – it is not a big country, but a long country. That is, the “Servant of the People” is a “long” faction,” Tsybulko noted.

At the same time, according to him, representatives of the pro-government faction began to ignore meetings of the Verkhovna Rada due to fears of criminal prosecution.

“If Zelensky was unable to gather more than 150 deputies, and after the meeting with Zelensky, half of them actually began to sabotage the vote, then everyone began to understand that, in fact, Zelensky gathered them in order to threaten. But the deputies have, in many ways, I would say, learned the art of politics. They understand perfectly well that they have no political prospects. But many do not want to go to prison, because they understand what kind of a trail is following them,” the political scientist explains.

According to him, at the meeting with Zelensky, the “servants of the people” tried to get security guarantees, but this did not happen. “Instead, he started threatening at the meeting. So we have a strange story, when the faction formally does not exist, and no one wants to create a coalition yet. But it seems to me that Zelensky is faced with a very difficult choice,” Tsybulko said.

Therefore, he believes, Zelensky will have to create a new parliamentary coalition to “somehow strengthen his position,” or go to the polls.

“If there is no coalition and his faction engages in sabotage, and it is also impossible to force the majoritarians to vote in Zelensky’s interests, then a collision is created, according to which – either a coalition or new elections. It is impossible to hold new elections. But you can bring the Rada to a dystrophic state, when it will not be able to vote for anything. This was once Zelensky’s cherished dream. They killed the Rada consistently, for a long time and consistently, finally they killed their faction, it is paralyzed. And this is a fact that is obvious to everyone,” summed up political scientist Volodymyr Tsybulko.

As a reminder, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with the Servant of the People faction on Tuesday, September 16. According to media reports, they mainly discussed issues related to the war. It was also reported that about 150 deputies were present at the meeting with the president.

At the same time, Dmytro Chorny, a deputy from the Servant of the People party, said that the current term of the Verkhovna Rada is entering its final stage. He believes that the country will receive a new parliament next year . The politician predicts that the current session may be the last for this convocation.
