No Russian decision will change the status of the occupied Ukrainian territories – MFA

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has responded to Russia’s plans to lift border controls between the occupied Ukrainian territories and the Russian Federation.
The department stated that the transfer of border control points to the external borders of the occupied territories is another attempt by the Kremlin to create the appearance of their alleged full integration into Russia.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that no Russian law, decree, or departmental order can change the international legal status of Ukrainian territories. According to diplomats, occupation does not create sovereignty, and attempted annexation does not grant Russia any territorial rights.
The agency emphasized that Russia remains an occupying and aggressor state, regardless of how it defines the status of captured territories in its own legislation.
At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the relocation of checkpoints or changes to Russian documents and maps do not affect Ukraine’s internationally recognized state border.
Ukraine continues to maintain its sovereignty in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Sevastopol, and the temporarily occupied parts of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions, the ministry noted.
As a reminder, Russia plans to abolish border zones between the occupied territories of Ukraine and neighboring Russian regions. This applies to the Rostov and Voronezh regions, as well as the area between occupied Crimea and the Kherson region.
