European countries have reacted to US President Donald Trump’s decision to impose additional tariffs on eight European countries over their stance on Greenland. The European Union announced that it was preparing a coordinated response and supported Denmark.

This is reported by Bloomberg .

European Council President Antonio Costa said he was coordinating a joint response from European Union countries to the US tariff decision. He did not provide details of possible measures.

French President Emmanuel Macron issued a statement emphasizing Paris’s position on sovereignty and security.

“France is committed to the sovereignty and independence of peoples in Europe and beyond,” said French President Emmanuel Macron.

He also noted that France will continue to support Ukraine and will participate in exercises organized by Denmark in Greenland.

“No intimidation or threat will affect us – neither in Ukraine, nor in Greenland, nor anywhere else in the world,” said French President Emmanuel Macron.

Macron called threats of tariffs unacceptable and stated the need for a unified European response.

“We will ensure that European sovereignty is respected,” said French President Emmanuel Macron.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson also said that Europe would not accept pressure from the United States.

“We will not allow ourselves to be blackmailed. This is an EU issue that concerns many more countries than those currently singled out,” said Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide confirmed Denmark’s support and said that the issue of tariffs should not be part of the negotiations on Greenland.

“There is broad agreement within NATO on the need to strengthen security in the Arctic, particularly in Greenland. We do not believe that the issue of tariffs should be considered in this context,” said Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer also condemned the US decision on tariffs.

“Our position on Greenland is very clear: it is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, and its future depends on both Greenlanders and Danes,” said British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

He added that applying tariffs to NATO allies is wrong and London plans to discuss this issue with the US administration.

By the way, US President Donald Trump has imposed tariffs on imports of goods from eight European countries because of their position on Greenland . The tariffs will be in effect until an agreement is reached on the full purchase of the island and will increase to 25% from June 1.

Recall, Trump stated the strategic importance of Greenland for the security of the United States.

It was previously reported that the goal of annexing Greenland to the United States has moved from rhetoric to official policy, as the White House has begun implementing an official plan to acquire the Arctic island from Denmark .

At the same time, the Prime Minister of Denmark appealed to Trump to stop statements about the possible seizure of Greenland . She emphasized that talk of annexation of Greenland is baseless.

As is known, against the backdrop of US President Donald Trump’s statements regarding the seizure of Greenland , the Danish authorities are sending military equipment and defense forces to the island .
