Nobel Peace Prize — for the sake of Ukraine: Europe puts pressure on Trump’s ambitions

Europe is considering an unconventional approach to win Donald Trump over to Ukraine’s side: offering him the Nobel Peace Prize as a kind of “diplomatic gift.” Such a symbolic gesture could sway the ambitious American politician and encourage him to help end the war.

This is what The Economist writes about.

The idea is based on Trump’s personal interest in the prestigious award. At one time, he had already publicly credited himself with ending several conflicts and hinted at his right to receive the prize, similar to Roosevelt, King, or Mother Teresa.

That is why the issue of the war in Ukraine may become a key test for him, the resolution of which will open the way for him to the status of a “world-class peacemaker.”

European diplomats suggest that the prospect of the prize could become a lever of influence: they say, if Trump realizes that Russia is preventing him from achieving real peace, he will have to choose Ukraine’s side.

However, the idea has a downside. Trump may seek a quick, spectacular result – to declare peace without delving into security guarantees for Kyiv. And if the negotiations drag on, it will be easier for him to force Ukraine to accept a shaky ceasefire than to force Putin to accept defeat.

At the same time, even if Trump does not officially receive the nomination, loud support from European leaders, letters of recommendation, and hints that “Oslo doesn’t mind” will be enough. This may play a role – because image is often more important to Trump than formalities.

Although the nomination process itself does not guarantee anything (there are hundreds of candidates every year, and Hitler was among them at one time), for an American politician it is a chance to get into the cohort of the chosen ones. And if it brings him closer to Ukraine, then why not.

As a reminder, Cambodia planned to nominate US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

As reported, Azerbaijani President IlhamAliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced their intention to nominate US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Recently, the US presidential administration officially nominated Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, calling him the “president of peace.” The initiative was supported by the leaders of several countries, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Israel, and others. This is not the first attempt to nominate Trump, who, according to him, has long considered himself worthy of this award.
