North Korean troops likely suffered over 6,000 casualties during offensive operations in the Kursk region.

This was reported by British intelligence.

It is noted that the total number of casualties is more than half of the approximately 11,000 North Korean soldiers who were initially deployed in the Kursk region.

According to intelligence, North Korea subsequently deployed a limited number of additional troops.

“The significant losses of North Korean troops were almost certainly the result of large-scale, very exhausting infantry attacks,” the report said.

As noted, on June 4, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu made his second visit to the DPRK in less than three months.

“Shoigu was most likely a key mediator in negotiations with the DPRK regarding its support for Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine,” the intelligence agency suggested.

At the same time, they explained that so far North Korean soldiers have only participated in combat operations in the areas of the Kursk operation. However, the deployment of troops in the internationally recognized sovereign territory of Ukraine to support Russian forces would require the approval of both Putin and Kim Jong-un.

It should be noted that after months of adaptation and combat experience, the North Korean troops, who have been fighting on the side of Russia since the fall of 2024, became the key force in pushing the Ukrainian military out of Kursk. The DPRK not only joined the war, but also significantly influenced the dynamics of hostilities on one of the hottest fronts.

As a reminder, the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine , Andriy Chernyak, reported that North Korean troops in the Kursk direction have learned modern tactics and the use of drones and electronic warfare .

As it became known, Russia plans to use the DPRK military for the war in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine . The North Korean military, which continues to assist the Russians during offensive operations, may for the first time be involved in the offensive of the Russian occupation army in the Kharkiv and Sumy regions.
