Norway announces new financial assistance to Ukraine
Norway is allocating 4 billion Norwegian kroner to Ukraine – about 17 billion hryvnias. The funds will go to support the energy sector and ensure the stable operation of the state.
The assistance was announced by Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, who is visiting Kyiv on January 12. He noted that Russia attacks Ukraine’s energy infrastructure several times a week, leaving people without electricity and heat for many hours.
According to Eide, Ukraine needs these funds right now so that people can stay warm, cook food, and live as normal a life as possible during the war. He emphasized that the endurance of Ukrainians is important not only for Ukraine itself, but also for all of Europe.
Financial assistance will be distributed through international organizations, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Energy Community.
As previously reported, Japan transferred about 47.7 million euros for the reconstruction of Ukraine and agreed to launch a new phase of the Emergency Recovery Program.
As a reminder, the European Union transferred 2.3 billion euros to Ukraine as part of the sixth regular tranche under the Ukraine Facility program.
