The Norwegian government plans to tighten residency rules for newly arrived conscripted men from Ukraine.
This was reported by the Norwegian Ministry of Justice.
Justice Minister Astri Aas-Hansen said the country must control immigration and ensure its sustainability. According to her, since the fall of 2025, Norway has seen an increase in the number of young Ukrainian men arriving in the country.
The government will submit for public consultation a proposal under which men aged 18-60, with the exception of certain categories, will no longer receive temporary collective protection. Instead, they will be able to apply for asylum under the general procedure.
Minister of Labor and Integration Kjersti Stenseng emphasized that municipalities have already resettled almost 100,000 Ukrainians and are reporting an overload of social services and a housing shortage.
The new rules will not apply to those who already have temporary collective protection. The restrictions will also not apply to men discharged from service for health reasons, people evacuated under a medical program, as well as parents who are caring for children on their own.
The government plans to adopt the changes by Easter and quickly implement them.
It was previously reported that the Czech Republic earned more than it spent on supporting Ukraine. Former Prime Minister Petr Fiala says that the state spent 91.3 billion crowns and received 104 billion.
As a reminder, the United States has suspended the processing of all asylum and visa applications from Afghan citizens.
