Norway proposes banning social media for children

The Norwegian government plans to introduce a ban on the use of social media by children under 16.

Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre announced this. According to him, the corresponding bill should be submitted to parliament by the end of 2026.

The government is also proposing to make tech companies responsible for verifying users’ ages.

Stere emphasized that the goal of the initiative is to protect children from the excessive influence of the digital environment.

“We want a childhood where children can be children. Games, friendships, and everyday life should not be dominated by algorithms and screens,” he noted.

The Norwegian government believes this step will be important for children’s safety in the digital space.

As a reminder, Indonesian authorities have introduced new restrictions for users under 16 on social media . The decision comes amid a global tightening of controls over digital platforms.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is reportedly afraid to shut down Telegram for two reasons: fear of losing his ratings and the loss of the enormous resources the government has invested in promoting anonymous Telegram channels with millions of subscribers.
