Norway will allocate 48 million euros to Ukraine on the eve of winter: where will the funds be directed?

Norway will provide Ukraine with 500 million Norwegian kroner (about 48 million euros) to support the energy sector. The funds will be used to restore damaged infrastructure, purchase equipment, and prepare the power system for the winter period.

This was reported by the Norwegian government.

It is noted that the new aid package was announced by Norwegian Energy Minister Terje Asland during a visit to Kyiv on October 27. The funding will be provided in November and December as part of the government’s Nansen program.

“Ukraine will soon enter a new military winter. To ensure the most stable power supply and avoid serious humanitarian consequences, it is extremely important that Ukraine receives funds to purchase equipment to strengthen and restore critical infrastructure destroyed by Russian bombing,” Asland emphasized.

What will the funds be used for?

The funding will be transferred to the Energy Support Fund of Ukraine. It will be used to repair damaged facilities, purchase necessary equipment, and restore energy infrastructure.

The Ukrainian side will independently determine the priorities of procurement and work in accordance with the most urgent needs of the energy system.

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, Norway has provided Ukraine with over 16 billion Norwegian kroner for gas purchases, energy infrastructure restoration, and the implementation of new energy solutions.

The total amount of Norwegian support to Ukraine under the Nansen program in 2026 will be 85 billion kroner. Of this amount, 70 billion is earmarked for military needs, and another 15 billion for civilian and humanitarian assistance, including support for the energy sector.

It was previously reported that Ukraine and Norway are working to accelerate the European anti-ballistic missile program FREYJA to begin testing its elements by the end of 2026.
