Norway will allocate 550 million euros for Ukraine: what will the funds be used for?

Norway plans to allocate more than 6.5 billion Norwegian kroner, which is about $644 million, for the purchase of unmanned aerial vehicles and related technologies from manufacturers in Ukraine and Europe.

Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre stressed that drones are a key element in Ukraine’s defense today. They are actively used not only to defend important facilities, but also directly on the front line. According to him, support from Norway will help significantly strengthen the capabilities of the Ukrainian army in conducting reconnaissance and combat operations.
In April, Norway officially joined the international Drone Coalition, led by Latvia, and announced its intention to increase assistance to the Ukrainian defense industry.
This is Norway’s first major contract to purchase unmanned systems directly from foreign manufacturers.
In addition, this step supports the decision of the Norwegian Parliament, which in March increased funding to support Ukraine to 50 billion kroner by 2025.
Defense Minister Tore Onshus Sandvik emphasized that these investments will help Ukraine develop its own deterrence potential, which will remain important even after a possible peace is established.
He also pledged that Norway will continue to support Ukraine in areas such as maritime security, air defense, and the development of unmanned and autonomous technologies. Cooperation with Ukrainian manufacturers and regional partnerships for the training of new military formations will remain a priority.
As a reminder, the European Council approved a voluntary financial contribution from Norway of 1 billion Norwegian kroner (86 million euros) to support the Ukrainian army through the European Peace Facility (EPF).
As reported, Norwegian Defense Minister Tore Sandvik confirmed that Oslo will complete the transfer of all promised F-16 fighters to Ukraine by the end of 2025.
By the way, Norway will develop and manufacture unmanned surface drones in Ukraine using its own technologies.
