Norway will allocate 1.2 billion Norwegian kroner, or about 109 million euros, for the development and purchase of naval drones for Ukraine.

This is reported by DW, citing a statement from the Norwegian government.

The funding will be provided within the framework of the Nansen Support Program for Ukraine. The funds will be used for the development, procurement and supply of maritime drones, which will be produced by Ukrainian and Norwegian defense companies.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre noted that the Norwegian maritime industry has significant experience in this area, which could help Ukraine in the war against Russia.

“The Norwegian maritime industry is a world leader. I am glad that this experience can also be used to support Ukraine’s fight for freedom,” said Stere.

He emphasized that Ukraine is already actively using naval drones for reconnaissance, strike operations, and defense against Russian attacks.

The Norwegian government expects that the new funding will help strengthen Ukraine’s maritime capabilities and promote the development of joint defense projects.

As previously reported, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held his first meeting with the new Prime Minister of Latvia, Andris Kulbergs, during his visit to Tallinn. Following the negotiations, the parties signed the Drone Deal on cooperation in the defense sector.

As a reminder, Ukraine received the last tranche of financial assistance from the UK — 752 million pounds sterling (approximately 1 billion dollars) . These funds will be used for the needs of the security and defense sector.
