On the night of October 16, Russia launched a massive strike on Ukraine’s gas infrastructure using dozens of missiles and drones, damaging facilities responsible for gas and heat supply and injuring workers.

This was reported by NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine.

The company’s head, Serhiy Koretsky, called on Ukrainians to consume gas economically, as the attacks affect domestic production, forcing the state to cover the deficit with imports.

Several regions, including Vinnytsia, Sumy, Poltava, and Kharkiv regions, were affected by the shelling. Emergency power outages were imposed in some regions due to damage to energy infrastructure.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that an air alert was declared throughout Ukraine overnight due to new missile threats. The Air Force noted that some of the enemy targets were shot down.

According to representatives of the energy sector, Ukrainians are advised to use gas and other energy resources rationally in order to get through the heating season stably. The authorities assured that all necessary measures to restore damaged facilities are already being implemented.

It is worth adding that on the night of October 16, Russian troops attacked energy infrastructure in the Poltava region. The gas production facilities of the DTEK Naftogaz company came under enemy fire.

We would like to remind you that from 16:00 until the end of the day, two-stage capacity limitation schedules for industrial consumers may be introduced in all regions of Ukraine . This is due to the high level of electricity consumption and the consequences of Russian shelling of energy infrastructure.

By the way, the cost of gas used to generate electricity is increasing in Ukraine – the government has approved new tariffs that will remain in effect until the end of March 2026.

As you know, the heating season will begin soon. At the same time , Russia has already destroyed 60% of Ukrainian gas production thanks to large-scale attacks on facilities in the Kharkiv and Poltava regions.
