The Novoshakhtinsky oil refinery in the Rostov region of the Russian Federation has temporarily stopped operations after a nighttime drone attack. The enterprise suffered damage.

This was reported by the Governor of the Rostov Region, Yuriy Slyusar, on Telegram.

According to him, the plant was damaged as a result of the attack, so its work had to be suspended.

“According to updated information, as a result of a nighttime enemy attack on the Rostov region, the Novoshakhtinsky Oil Refinery was damaged. The enterprise has temporarily suspended its work,” the Russian official noted.

Local residents also posted videos in which drones can be heard flying overhead, Russian air defenses operating, and explosions near the enterprise.

The plant’s design capacity is estimated at approximately 7.5 million tons of crude oil per year, which is about 112-115 thousand barrels per day. At the same time, some sources cite figures from 5.6 to 7.5 million tons per year.

The enterprise was put into operation in 2009. It became one of the first large oil refineries built in Russia in a long period.

The refinery is connected to the main oil pipelines of the Transneft system, as well as railway tracks through which raw materials are supplied and finished products are shipped.

The Novoshakhtyn plant has been the target of attacks on several occasions. In particular, on the night of May 31 this year, Ukrainian Neptune missiles damaged two oil refining facilities.

The Ukrainian Navy stated that the Novoshakhtyn Oil Refinery is an important enterprise in the region’s fuel infrastructure and plays a role in providing Russian occupation forces with fuel and lubricants.

On December 25, 2025, the plant was also hit by Storm Shadow cruise missiles. Then a large-scale fire broke out on the territory of the plant.

It was previously reported that the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck two important facilities of the Russian fuel and energy infrastructure – the Afipsky oil refinery in the Krasnodar Territory and gas separation facilities at the Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant.
