France has suggested that in five years, by 2030, Russia could become a “real threat” to Europe.
This forecast was given by the Chief of the French General Staff, Thierry Burkhard, for the newspaper The Economist, reports “European Truth”.
He stressed that European military methods must be adapted to new conditions. Burkhard added that in a conflict, the Russians would survive “five minutes longer than us.”
“Experience, sheer numbers, and endurance make the Russian army effective… and therefore dangerous,” he explained.
According to the French general, the United States will not stand aside, but it is worth developing relations between France, Great Britain, and Germany.
He assured that the alliance, which has been strengthening recently, could become the “European pillar of NATO.”
Burkhard also noted that the methods of warfare are changing, and high-tech weapons, in particular SCALP cruise missiles, will play an important role. However, they are expensive, so cheap ammunition is needed to exhaust the enemy.
At the same time, he noted that it is important to combine drones “on the ground, in the air, at sea,” but if France finds itself under threat from the Russian Federation, “the issue will not be conventional weapons, but nuclear deterrence.”
As a reminder, German MP from the Christian Democratic Union, Roderich Kiesewetter, spoke out in favor of a possible temporary withdrawal of Germany from the Ottawa Convention on the Prohibition of Anti-Personnel Mines .
Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that, according to NATO and the United States, Russia and China will be ready to confront the West in 2027 .
By the way,
German intelligence has concrete evidence of the Kremlin’s preparations for potential aggression against NATO . Thus, the Russian Federation plans to test the effectiveness of Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, which guarantees mutual defense.
