During the negotiations, Steve Witkoff proposed to Putin to maintain control over the occupied territories of Ukraine for 99 years, and a truce, not peace, would be concluded between the parties to the conflict.
We learned about this in the Polish publication Onet.
Donald Trump’s special representative Steve Witkoff conveyed the following proposals at a meeting with Putin:
- Ukraine and Russia will conclude not peace, but a truce;
- Russian achievements will be de facto recognized, Russia will retain control over the occupied territories for 49 or 99 years;
- most sanctions imposed on Russia will be lifted;
- In the long term, imports of Russian gas and oil will be restored.
However, during the negotiations between Witkoff and Putin, no guarantees were given regarding NATO’s non-expansion. Nor did the US promise to stop military support for Ukraine.
It was previously reported that Russia and the United States have agreed to a meeting between Putin and Trump in the coming days, the location has already been chosen and preparations for it have begun .
Recall that US President Donald Trump informed European leaders of his intention to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin next week , and later to organize a trilateral meeting with the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
It is worth adding that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that after a conversation with Donald Trump, Russia is demonstrating greater readiness for a ceasefire . At the same time, he warned that the Kremlin should not be allowed to deceive either Ukraine or the United States. The head of state also noted the successes of the Ukrainian army in Kursk, which forced Moscow to ask for help from the DPRK.
By the way, US President Donald Trump announced progress in negotiations with Russia to end the war in Ukraine . According to him, his special envoy Steve Witkoff met with Vladimir Putin, after which consultations with European allies began.
