Odessa received the status of a “combat zone”: what does this mean

Odessa, Izmail, Kiliya, Vilkovo, Chornomorsk and 119 other settlements in the Odessa region have officially received the status of territories where military operations are taking place.

This is stated in the Order of the Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine.

In particular, the Ministry of Reconstruction of Ukraine updated the list of combat zones. According to order No. 1151 of July 15, 119 settlements of seven communities of the Odessa region were added to the list.

The new status means that military administrations can be created in cities. Thus, the OBA will have the right to stop decisions of local councils, remove officials and redistribute funds from community budgets. In addition, residents will have access to an expanded “Restoration” program for compensation for destroyed or damaged housing.
