Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico has made another harsh anti-Ukrainian statement ahead of a planned meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, prompting Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry to condemn his words.

Commenting on the upcoming summit between the US President and the Russian dictator, the Slovak Prime Minister stated that regardless of the agreements reached, Ukraine will suffer the most.
“Remember the old African truth that I like to repeat? It doesn’t matter whether elephants fight or have sex – the grass always suffers. No matter how the elephant talks end on August 15, the grass will suffer – in this case, Ukraine,” Fico said.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry called such rhetoric offensive and emphasized that after three years of full-scale war, Fico still has not realized the real reasons for Russian aggression and the danger of flirting with the Kremlin.
“It is unfortunate that the head of government of an EU member state allows himself to make openly offensive statements about Ukraine and its people, who heroically resist Russian aggression every day, defending the security of all of Europe,” the department said in a statement.

Diplomats warned Fico against using “unfriendly folkloric allegories” and trying to boost his political rating through such statements.
“This is frivolity that insults the memory of the dead, the suffering of millions of Ukrainian families and the sacrifice of those who fight for freedom,” the Foreign Ministry emphasized.

They also noted that the words of the Slovak Prime Minister contradict the principles of good neighborliness, solidarity and mutual respect, and thus Fico insults not only Ukrainians, but also his own people.

Earlier, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that his country would not support the 18th package of European Union sanctions against the Russian Federation unless the gas plan was revised.

Let us recall that two members of the union, Slovakia and Malta, are against the approval of the 18th package of EU sanctions against Russia.
