On National Flag Day, Poroshenko told the stories of the battle flags handed over to him by the military
The fifth president and leader of “European Solidarity” Petro Poroshenko congratulated Ukrainians on the Day of the National Flag. He also shared the stories of the battle flags that the military handed over to him from the front.
“Our entire office is covered in flags. Not all of them are blue and yellow, but all are Ukrainian. Hundreds of brigades, regiments, battalions handed us their sacred relics. Each of them has its own history. But there are also special ones,” the fifth President wrote on social media.

One of them was given to me by the soldiers of the 10th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade “Edelweiss”. My deceased friend Gleb Babich fought under this flag. A man, a warrior, a poet. His words and songs became part of this brigade and the entire army. As if woven into the fabric. Today, my friend Stepan Barna continues to fight under this flag. I know that the guys from Edelweiss hold their positions firmly and with dignity. For me, this is my native brigade. We celebrated Christmas together at the front. We are one family. And this is a great honor,” Poroshenko writes.

“We also have a flag from “Kholodny Yar”, the legendary 93rd Separate Mechanized Brigade “Kholodny Yar”. Scout Yaroslav Zhuravel served and died under it. He went to pull out a wounded comrade. And did not return… Today, “Kholodny Yar” continues its combat path. The brigade includes both geniuses of the latest robotic systems and steel infantry. When I hold this banner in my hands, I feel that it carries both the pain of loss and the strength of brothers. Because Yaroslav lives in it,” the fifth President writes.

“And there is a banner with the following words: “The people who do not feed their army will feed someone else’s.” This phrase is often attributed to the man who burned Moscow. It was painted on canvas by our friend Stas, a fighter of the 101st Separate Security Brigade of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine named after Colonel General Gennady Vorobyov, who died in the Kharkiv region during a combat mission. Even in the most difficult days, Stas knew how to joke. He died. But he was defeated. His faith, his laughter and his banner live on. At that time, his father Oleg Olegovich served in the South in the Air Defense Forces – he shot down martyrs and Russian missiles. Thank you for my son! And once again, my sincere condolences,” Poroshenko wrote.
“All these flags around and our main banner are not just banners. These are stories, wills and opinions of our friends. These are symbols that support us in difficult times and lead us forward. We have no right to let down those who gave their lives. We will win!”, writes Petro Poroshenko.
