One of the largest parties since the beginning of the war: a large-scale network of illegal arms trafficking was uncovered in Ukraine
The Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police have uncovered a criminal group that was trying to sell one of the largest consignments of captured weapons during a full-scale war. During a special operation, law enforcement officers detained 6 people and seized a significant arsenal of weapons and ammunition.
This was reported by the press service of the SBU.
As a result of comprehensive measures in the Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions, law enforcement officers neutralized a criminal group that was preparing a large batch of captured weapons for clandestine sale.
Law enforcement officers detained the group’s organizer, 2 of his accomplices, and 3 people from the criminal environment who were trying to sell weapons.
Among the seized items were 75 samples of small arms, including Kalashnikov assault rifles, 38 combat grenades, over 20 detonators, 2 grenade launchers, and 13,000 rounds of ammunition.
According to the case materials, the group members secretly exported weapons from frontline areas and stored them in caches. To restore damaged weapons, they set up underground workshops in their own homes, and ordered components through specialized online platforms.
After restoring the weapons’ combat properties, the attackers looked for clients among representatives of local criminal circles.
The SBU and the National Police exposed the group at the stage of preparation for sale. All the suspects were detained during the transfer of combat samples. During searches of underground workshops and households, an additional 13,000 rounds of various calibers and significant amounts of cash were seized.
The detainees were informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 28 and Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The issue of additional qualification of their actions is being resolved. The suspects are in custody. They face up to 7 years in prison.
It was previously reported that the National Police of Ukraine has stopped the activities of a criminal group that was engaged in the illegal sale of weapons and ammunition in the country . The organizer of the group has been detained and has been informed of the suspicion.
We will remind you that the SBU and the National Police disrupted several schemes for the illegal sale of “trophy” weapons and detained nine dealers in various regions of Ukraine.
