One of the largest petrochemical plants is on fire in Tatarstan: one person dead and several injured

On March 31, a powerful explosion and a large-scale fire broke out at a petrochemical plant in the city of Nizhnekamsk, Tatarstan, Russia.

This is reported by social media users.

As a result of the incident, 50 people were injured, they received injuries of varying severity. One person is also known to have died. According to unconfirmed information, another 7 people are missing.

Ambulance crews from another city were sent to Nizhnyokamsk.

According to the official version of emergency services, the cause of the explosion was an equipment malfunction, which led to a fire. The fire covered a large area – the flames spread to more than 2 thousand square meters.

Firefighters are working at the scene. More than 60 specialists and 19 pieces of equipment were involved in extinguishing the fire.

“The fire at Nizhnekamskneftekhim has been assigned the maximum level of complexity,” Russian publics note.

It is worth noting that PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim is one of the largest petrochemical plants in the Russian Federation and Eastern Europe. The enterprise produces synthetic rubbers, ethylene, propylene, benzene, polyethylene, polypropylene and polystyrene.

Recall, earlier in Nizhny Kamsk a fire broke out on the territory of a local oil refinery . According to analysts, one of the primary oil refining units was on fire.
