Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban managed to get the United States to grant him a one-year postponement of sanctions related to the use of Russian oil and gas.

According to Reuters, this happened following a meeting between Orban and US President Donald Trump on November 7.

The agreement stipulates that Hungary will also purchase American liquefied natural gas worth about $600 million.

Orban previously reported that the US concessions were supposedly “general and indefinite,” but as we can see, this is just a postponement for a year.

Donald Trump acknowledged that Hungary needs access to Russian energy resources due to its lack of access to the sea.

Recall that the Donald Trump administration announced the first major package of financial restrictions aimed at the Russian economy . This move became part of Washington’s new strategy, the aim of which is to force the Kremlin to end the war against Ukraine.
