OpenAI has announced the start of a pilot testing of group chats on its ChatGPT service. The new interface is already available in several regions for users with different subscription types.

The company said the new interface is designed to make it easier for users to collaborate within a conversation. The announcement said the testing has started in several regions and covers different interaction formats.
According to the company, group chats allow users to bring together friends, family, or colleagues in a shared space to plan, make decisions, and discuss ideas.
“Whether you’re organizing a group dinner or making plans with colleagues, ChatGPT can help,” the company emphasized.
The company’s announcement also emphasized that group chats are separate from users’ private conversations, and personal ChatGPT memories are not shared with other participants.
Group chats are now available on mobile and web for registered users with ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, and Pro subscriptions in Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Taiwan.
The company clarified that the launch has the status of a pilot project.
“This is a pilot project that is a small first step towards sharing ChatGPT, and we expect early user feedback to help us expand our operations to more regions and ChatGPT subscriptions,” OpenAI added.
As a reminder, OpenAI has amended its ChatGPT usage policy , prohibiting its use for medical, legal, and other consulting services that require a special license. The updated policy also restricts the use of AI in areas where critical intervention is possible without human intervention.
