Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that the country has agreed to a ceasefire with Iran, which US President Donald Trump had previously announced.
This is reported by Ynet.
A statement from Netanyahu’s office said the decision was made “as a result of achieving the objectives of the operation” and in full coordination with the US president. Israel, the prime minister said, had accepted Trump’s proposal for a bilateral ceasefire.
Netanyahu said that Israel had made “historic achievements” in the recent fighting and eliminated two key threats that had posed a danger to the country. He also stressed that if Tehran violated the agreements, Israel would respond decisively.
Iranian state-run Press TV also confirmed the start of the ceasefire, saying it came into effect after four waves of Iranian strikes on Israeli-controlled territories.
On the eve of the meeting, US President Donald Trump announced that an agreement had been reached between Tehran and Jerusalem on a complete cessation of hostilities. According to Axios, the ceasefire was to begin at midnight Eastern Time (7:00 a.m. on June 24, Kyiv time). By that time, both sides were to have completed their current military operations.
On the night of June 24, Trump announced that Iran would cease fire first — for 12 hours, after which Israel would join the truce. The conflict is expected to officially end 24 hours after it began.
As a reminder, on the morning of June 24, Iran launched several ballistic missiles towards Israel. The attack occurred shortly after former US President Donald Trump’s statement that an agreement had allegedly been reached between Iran and Israel on a ceasefire.
As reported, on Monday, June 23, Iran fired several missiles at American military bases in the Middle East in response to US strikes on Tehran’s nuclear program facilities.
