Operation Midas: Did the FSB Know About the Vulnerabilities of the Ukrainian Energy Sector?
The large-scale corruption scheme in the Ukrainian energy sector, which was exposed by the NABU and SAPO as a result of Operation Midas, could be controlled by the Russian Federation, which, thanks to this, had complete information about the vulnerabilities of the energy system.
This assumption was expressed on the air of “Pryamoy” by Yaroslav Zheleznyak, a people’s deputy from the “Holos” faction.
According to him, the key role in money laundering was played by the office of state traitor Andriy Derkach, and the direct curator of the scheme was his partner and classmate at the FSB Academy, Igor Mironyuk. “How much do you think Russia is aware of our problems in the energy sector? I think, to the maximum, if these funds are laundered through them,” Zheleznyak noted.
The MP explained that Myronyuk, who, according to NABU, managed the processes, issued orders and kept the defendants, including the Minister of Energy, on his payroll. This means that Russia, through its agents, had direct access to information about the condition and security of Ukrainian energy facilities.
Zheleznyak stressed that corruption literally kills, as the embezzlement of funds intended for energy protection directly affected the resilience of infrastructure during Russian attacks. The situation at Energoatom, he said, is just one episode, and similar risks may exist in the field of military procurement.
It was previously reported that the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office are conducting a large-scale operation “Midas” to expose corruption in the energy sector. According to the investigation, the activities of a high-level criminal organization were established, which controlled financial flows and personnel decisions in state energy structures.
Later, it became known that NABU detectives conducted searches at the residence of former Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko and at JSC NNEGC Energoatom . The investigation concerns corruption schemes in the energy sector, which, according to the investigation, had been operating for a long time.
Meanwhile, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the investigation into the corruption scheme in the energy sector. “Any effective action against corruption is very necessary. The inevitability of punishment is necessary,” the head of state noted.
