Operation Midas: NABU and SAPO file a request for the arrest of ex-minister Chernyshov
NABU and SAPO have served the former Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine with a request for a preventive measure. Prosecutors plan to request his detention.
This was reported by the press service of the department.
It is worth noting that the NABU does not name the person involved, except that according to RBC-Ukraine, it is about Oleksiy Chernyshov.
According to the agencies, on November 11, Oleksiy Chernyshov was suspected of illicit enrichment in a case involving schemes in the energy sector.
The investigation established that the ex-employee visited a place that the participants in the proceedings called a “laundry.” According to detectives, the legalization of funds obtained through criminal means was carried out there. It is noted that the participants in the scheme gave Chernyshov the pseudonym Che Guevara.
Law enforcement officers recorded the transfer of over one million two hundred thousand United States dollars and almost one hundred thousand euros in cash to the suspect and his proxy.
The investigation materials also indicate that the former employee is already suspected of abusing his official position and obtaining illegal benefits in a particularly large amount.
The tapes, released as part of the NABU investigation into corruption in the energy sector, feature a number of officials, including the president’s friend Timur Mindich, the current ministers of justice and energy Herman Galushchenko and Svitlana Grinchuk, as well as other officials. It is noted that the government’s reaction to these materials was not immediate and is assessed as insufficient.
The material also recalled that journalists in the article “Operation Midas. The path of absolute power as long as a dollar” called on the authorities to take additional measures to properly respond to the revealed facts.
By the way, after Operation Midas, which exposed large-scale corruption at Energoatom and shook up government offices, a systematic campaign to discredit NABU and SAPO was launched on Ukrainian Telegram . Anti-corruption authorities called the operation one of the most effective in 2025, but in parallel with its successes, a wave of identical posts appeared attacking investigators and prosecutors.
It was previously reported that foreign media reacted to Operation Midas.
We remind you that the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office are conducting a large-scale operation “Midas” to expose corruption in the energy sector.
