Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced his intention to gradually cut off gas supplies to Ukraine, accusing Kyiv of blocking the Druzhba oil pipeline.

He announced this on social media.

He noted that Ukraine has allegedly been obstructing the pipeline’s operation for over a month.

According to him, Hungary is “defending itself against blackmail” and is preparing for further retaliatory steps.

Orbán stated that Budapest plans to reduce gas supplies to Ukraine and accumulate unused resources in its own storage facilities. He also noted the need to create reserves, citing risks to the energy infrastructure.

In addition, the Hungarian Prime Minister accused Ukraine of allegedly attacking the southern gas pipeline that supplies Hungary with gas.

According to Orbán, such actions are aimed at maintaining the country’s energy security, as well as stable fuel and gas prices for the population.

Ukraine recently agreed to the European Union’s offer of financial and technical assistance to restore the Druzhba oil pipeline.

Previously, some European countries and the European Commission asked Ukraine to provide access to the damaged section of the pipeline, but were allegedly refused.

As is known, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced the possible termination of electricity supplies to Ukraine if oil transit through the Druzhba pipeline is not resumed .
