Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban told Russian leader Vladimir Putin in a phone call in October that he was ready to make “maximum efforts” to help him.

This is reported by Bloomberg, citing a transcript of the conversation.

According to the agency, Orban, in particular, offered to help “settle” the war against Ukraine and even organize a summit in Budapest.

“I am ready to help in any way. In any matter where I can be useful, I am at your service,” he said during the conversation.

During the dialogue, the Hungarian prime minister also mentioned Aesop’s fable of the lion and the mouse — a story about mutual assistance, which, according to the transcript, made Putin laugh.

The conversation took place on October 17 and lasted for a short time. Much of it was spent exchanging compliments and speaking positively about Donald Trump. The day before, both had also spoken with him about a possible summit in Budapest, but it never took place.

Orban noted that their relationship with Putin has been strengthening since 2009, when they met in St. Petersburg.

“The more friends we make, the more opportunities we have to confront our adversaries,” the Hungarian Prime Minister said.

For his part, Putin expressed satisfaction with Hungary’s position on the war against Ukraine, calling it “independent and flexible.”

At the same time, as Bloomberg notes, this conversation may indicate that a policy of supporting Russia is being formed at the highest level of the Hungarian government.

As reported, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the only way to overcome the energy crisis in Europe is to lift sanctions on Russia.

By the way, journalists have releasedaudio recordings and transcripts of conversations between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.
