Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has announced a possible interruption of electricity supplies to Ukraine if oil transit through the Druzhba oil pipeline is not resumed. According to him, a significant part of electricity comes to Ukraine from Hungary, and its interruption could have consequences.

This is reported by Telex .

During an event with Fidesz party activists, Orban answered questions about the situation with the Druzhba oil pipeline, which was damaged by the Russians. At the same time, the Hungarian government blamed Ukraine for supply disruptions.

According to Orban, the goal of the Ukrainian side is to create economic chaos and an energy emergency in Hungary, as well as influence the election results.

“Chaos in the minds of Ukrainians is the path to victory for the opposition in the elections,” said the Prime Minister of Hungary.

He stated that if oil transit is not resumed, Hungary may stop supplying electricity to Ukraine.

“A significant part of the electricity comes to Ukraine from Hungary. If we stop this, bad things can happen. Of course, we make some mistakes, but we cannot say that we are rude or brainless. We know exactly how to deal with such a situation, and we will cope. Anyone who bites us will have their teeth knocked out,” he added.

It is worth noting that Hungary is one of the key suppliers of electricity to Ukraine. In February 2026, the share of imports from Hungary reached 50% in the total structure of electricity imports.

According to ExPro estimates, in 2025, Ukraine imported about 1.4 million MWh of electricity from Hungary, which is 42% of total imports.

Earlier, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that he may initiate the termination of emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine if oil transit is not restored by Monday, February 23.
