Orban’s election loss will allow for renewed relations with Hungary – Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed the opinion that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán could suffer defeat in the upcoming parliamentary elections, after which Kyiv and Budapest could restore full relations.
The head of state stated this in an interview with the Italian publication Corriere della Sera .
Zelenskyy noted that Orbán’s influence largely depends on the support of other political forces. “Orbán becomes important when important political forces give him strength; otherwise, he’s worth little. Hungary is a country that has significance, but lacks military clout,” the president said.
At the same time, he emphasized that he does not consider the Hungarian people pro-Russian. According to Zelenskyy, if there is a change in political leadership, regular relations between the two countries could be resumed.
The President also emphasized that Ukraine opposes purchasing energy resources from Russia, since, according to him, Moscow could use the additional revenue to finance the war against Ukraine.
Orban previously announced the possible cessation of electricity supplies to Ukraine if oil transit through the Druzhba pipeline is not resumed.
As a reminder, Orbán recently responded to a media report about Ukraine joining the EU in 2027 by declaring that Brussels and Kyiv had “declared war” on Budapest.
