On the night of January 9, powerful explosions were heard in the Lviv region, which are attributed to the use of a Russian ballistic missile “Oreshnik”. Videos of the alleged moment of arrival and the consequences of the impact have appeared on the Internet, while the official identification of the type of missile is still ongoing.

On the evening of January 8, an air alert was declared in Lviv and the region due to the threat of ballistic missiles, after which numerous explosions were heard. According to local authorities , the arrivals were recorded near critical infrastructure facilities.

Several videos have been posted online, which users say show the likely moments of impact and subsequent effects on the ground. The clarity and origin of the footage is currently being verified.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi and Lviv Regional Defense Organization Head Maksym Kozytskyi confirmed the missile strike on the region, noting that critical infrastructure was hit. It was stated that civilian buildings and residential areas did not suffer significant damage, and there is no information about civilian casualties yet.

According to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the missile hit the infrastructure facility, moving along a ballistic trajectory at a speed of approximately 13,000 kilometers per hour. The exact type of missile will be confirmed after examination of the debris.

Russian state sources have said the strike was carried out by an Oreshnik ballistic missile in “response” to an alleged attack on the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Official Ukrainian sources have not yet confirmed the use of this particular type of missile.

As a result of the shock wave in the Lviv region, the gas network safety system in the village of Rudno was triggered, temporarily leaving about 376 subscribers without gas supply. Specialists are checking the equipment and working to restore the gas supply.

Relevant services are working at the locations of possible arrivals, and the assessment of the extent of the damage and the elimination of the consequences of the impact are ongoing.
