The Oscar shortlist includes Mstislav Chernov’s documentary “2000 Meters to Andriyivka” and Anastasia Falileeva’s animated documentary “I Died in Irpen.”

The list of 12 categories was published on the film awards website .

In particular, the best “Documentary feature film” category went to Mstislav Chernov’s film “2000 Meters to Andriyivka”.

This film was shot during the Ukrainian counteroffensive of 2023. The story centers on the fighters of the Third Assault Brigade, who are tasked with liberating the village of Andriyivka in the Donetsk region by moving through a narrow forest strip.

The film demonstrates the price Ukrainians pay for every meter of land they regain from the Russian invaders.

The film’s world premiere took place in January 2025 at the Sundance Film Festival. Chernov’s previous work, “20 Days in Mariupol,” brought Ukraine its first Oscar win in 2024.

In addition, the shortlisted animated film “I Died in Irpen” was also shortlisted. It was presented in the category “Animated Short Film”. The 11-minute work combines animation based on charcoal drawings and Falileeva’s personal archives. The film tells the story of the first days of the full-scale invasion through the director’s personal story.

In addition, the “Short Feature Film” category included director Franz Böhm’s work “Rock, Paper, Scissors”, dedicated to a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, in which Ukrainian actors participated.

The final list of nominees will be announced on January 22, 2026. The awards ceremony will take place on March 15, 2026.
