Our task is to persevere: “Eurosolidarity” in the Kyiv City Council initiates important decisions to overcome the consequences of the energy disaster
Deputies of the European Solidarity faction in the Kyiv City Council are initiating a number of priority decisions to overcome the consequences of the energy crisis in the capital, caused by massive shelling during a sharp cold snap.
This was stated during a briefing by Volodymyr Prokopiv, head of the EU faction in the Kyiv City Council. According to him, the situation in the city remains extremely difficult and requires immediate and systemic solutions.
“We have consistently advocated in the Kyiv city budget such areas as cogeneration, co-financing programs for alternative energy supply, and backup power for medical institutions. And now, at the next plenary meeting of the Kyiv City Council, we will demand several fundamental and necessary decisions,” Prokopiv emphasized.
First of all, the European Solidarity faction is initiating the allocation of additional funding for services that are working around the clock to restore the city’s life support systems.
“These are our utility workers, management companies, employees of Kyivenergo, Vodokanal, the State Emergency Service, doctors – everyone who is tirelessly doing everything possible for the city today. At the initiative of the faction, these people should receive bonuses,” Prokopiv emphasized.
A separate block of decisions concerns support for socially vulnerable segments of the population. According to Prokopiv, these are people who cannot cope with the consequences of the energy crisis on their own.
“The Kyiv City Council must take this responsibility upon itself. European Solidarity has already prepared a relevant draft decision and will insist on its adoption,” he noted.
The faction will also demand the immediate return of eight billion hryvnias previously withdrawn from the city budget, which were planned to be used to purchase alternative power sources.
“If these funds had remained in the Kyiv budget, we would not have such a critical situation today. And the responsibility for this lies with every MP who voted for the withdrawal of this money in the capital,” Prokopiv emphasized.
A plenary session will be held in the Kyiv City Council on Thursday, at which deputies of “European Solidarity” are counting on support for the proposed decisions.
The leader of the “EU” in the Kyiv City Council, the head of the committee on healthcare, family, social and veterans’ policy, Maryna Poroshenko, thanked all the services that have been working for several days to eliminate the consequences of the shelling, and emphasized that the faction’s deputies are constantly in touch with the people of Kyiv.
“Our task is to support each other, to survive and persevere together in this extremely difficult situation. We are doing everything necessary to protect and support our people,” Maryna Poroshenko noted.
She also reported that the Poroshenko Foundation initiated the purchase of gas burners, power banks, EcoFlow, and other necessary equipment for homes and residents who found themselves in the most difficult conditions.
The EU deputies pay special attention to the work of medical institutions in the capital.
“I just returned from the Emergency Hospital and saw with my own eyes how its vital functions are ensured. Doctors are working at their posts, there is electricity, heating, and water supply. The situation is the same in other medical institutions,” said Maryna Poroshenko.
According to her, the faction’s deputies constantly interact with social services and urge Kyiv residents to stay in touch and promptly report problems.
“A meeting of the specialized commission will be held on Wednesday, where we will examine in detail how the medical and social spheres are coping with the current challenges. We will respond and remain in constant communication with everyone,” Maryna Poroshenko concluded.
We will remind you that in Kyiv, all homes that were left without electricity after the massive attack by the Russian Federation were connected to the power grid.
