More than fifty public organizations and media outlets are demanding that the Verkhovna Rada immediately resume open broadcasting of plenary sessions, as this is a critically important step towards transparency when making strategic decisions that affect anti-corruption reform and Ukraine’s European future.
This is reported by the “Chesno” movement.
It is noted that public organizations, journalists, and media initiatives have addressed the parliament with a public appeal: to return online broadcasts of Verkhovna Rada meetings on the “Rada” TV channel, as well as to publish agendas in advance. The authors of the appeal emphasize that without this, real public responsibility of deputies to society is impossible.
The call was made on the eve of the next meeting, at which the people’s representatives will consider the draft law on the restoration of the independence of the NABU and the SAPO.
“It is precisely such decisions that affect Ukraine’s image before international partners, the progress of anti-corruption reforms, and integration into the EU. Society should be able to see in real time how deputies vote and what position they voice,” the statement says.
The initiative has already united over 50 organizations and media, and remains open to new signatories. The appeal is addressed not only to the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada, but also to all factions – with a demand to ensure openness and publicity of the legislative process, even during war.
Activists emphasize that public broadcasting of sessions is not just a formality, but the foundation of democratic oversight , which is especially important in conditions of martial law. Without a transparent process, parliament risks losing the trust not only of voters, but also of international partners.
It is worth adding that the statement calling on the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada to resume live broadcasts of parliamentary sessions is open for signature.
Recall that the international organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF) called for greater access for journalists to parliament.
The day before, on January 14, the Verkhovna Rada supported bill No. 11321 , which opens the broadcast of meetings of parliamentary committees.
