Over $8 billion for Ukraine: what the new IMF program provides

The IMF Board of Directors approved a new four-year Extended Fund Facility for Ukraine worth $8.1 billion.
This was stated by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko.
The first tranche of about $1.5 billion will arrive in Ukraine in the near future. The funds will be used to finance the budget deficit and support macro-financial stability.
“In the fifth year of a full-scale war, Ukraine has the resources for stable state operation. The IMF program is part of a broader financial framework to cover a budget deficit of $136.5 billion over four years,” she noted.
According to her, the International Monetary Fund program is the “anchor” for all international assistance and paves the way for funding from the European Union, G7 countries, and international institutions.
As a reminder, the Japanese government is allocating 6.2 billion yen , which is about 41 million dollars, for Ukraine’s priority reconstruction needs.
As reported, Canada will allocate $2 billion in military assistance in the 2026–2027 fiscal year.
