Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban commented on the defeat of his Fidesz party in the parliamentary elections held on April 12. He acknowledged the massive failure and said he takes full responsibility for the result.

Viktor Orban said in an interview that the election result came as a surprise to him, as he was confident of victory before the vote.

“This is a clear defeat. The extent of the defeat is enormous,” said Viktor Orban.

According to him, he experienced strong emotions after the results were announced.

“I felt pain and emptiness… Even I thought we would win,” Viktor Orban said.

The opposition Tisza party, led by Peter Magyar, won the parliamentary elections. It won 138 of the 199 seats in parliament, while Fidesz won 55 seats.

Orban acknowledged that his political force had lost support from some voters and that the country was entering a new political phase. He also stated that as party leader he would not shift responsibility for the outcome onto others.

At the same time, the Prime Minister announced that he has no intention of leaving politics and plans to reboot the Fidesz party, including changes in its structure and leadership.

By the way, Hungary’s new leader, Peter Magyar, has begun negotiations with the European Union to unlock tens of billions of euros in financial aid . This amounts to a total of about 34 billion euros.

Earlier it was reported that the leader of the Hungarian opposition, Peter Magyar, whose party won the elections, opposed Ukraine’s accelerated accession to the EU , but stated that he would not block a loan for Kyiv of 90 billion euros.
