The Russian leadership is trying to agree on a short-term ceasefire in order to hold the traditional military parade on May 9 in Moscow without incident.

As diplomat and presenter Dmytro Chekalkin stated on the air of “Pryamoye”, citing data from President Zelensky and international sources, the aggressor fears strikes by Ukrainian drones on Red Square.

“Russia seeks a truce of one or several days, primarily in order to protect its annual military parade in Moscow from possible strikes from Ukraine,” he quoted the head of state as saying.

According to the studio guest, the Kremlin’s diplomatic efforts to engage Donald Trump on the issue demonstrate the vulnerability of the Russian capital. This year’s celebration shows a decline: the participation of military equipment has been canceled, and the number of foreign delegations has been reduced from twenty-six to four.

According to Chekalkin, this indicates the deep isolation of the Russian Federation and the real course of hostilities, where Russia is wasting resources without achieving its goals. Even traditional allies are avoiding presence in the main square of the aggressor country, he added.

As a reminder, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has declared his readiness to declare a ceasefire by May 9. This was reported by propaganda media with reference to Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov after Putin’s telephone conversation with Donald Trump. Official details regarding the format of such a ceasefire, its duration, or possible conditions have not yet been announced in the Kremlin.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky instructed his representatives to contact the team of White House Chief of Staff Donald Trump to clarify the details of the Russian proposal for a “truce” on May 9. According to the head of state, Ukraine’s proposal is to cease fire for a long time, guarantee reliable security for people and long-term peace.
